The global launch of the innovative HUMMER HX Concept took
place at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.
With its unmistakable design and compact go-anywhere drivability, in Las Vegas
TheHUMMER HX sets a new standard for
Las Vegas off-road vehicles
.
The HX marks the next step in the evolution of the HUMMER brand, with its
aeronautically inspired, reconfigurable interior and dynamic exterior, plus a
3.6L V6 FlexFuel engine that runs on E85 bio-ethanol or regular gasoline. Las
Vegas Gas prices $3.00 per gallon.
The HUMMER family began with the H1 ALPHA. A vehicle designed to be the most
off-road capable vehicle on the planet. With the H2, HUMMER made a more
accessible vehicle without off-road sacrifice. And now, with the H3, we invite
even more people to experience the freedom and excitement that comes only when
you get behind the wheel of a HUMMER Las Vegas.
The H3 is designed to get you safely through most off-road obstacles with its
fully welded steel frame, embossed front skid plate, 8.6 inches of ground
clearance, and full undercarriage protection. The H3 is also particularly
capable in water, being able to ford 24 inches of water at 5 mph and 16 inches
of water at 20 mph. And 37.5 approach angle coupled with a 35.5 departure angle
will help you avoid getting stuck on obstacles.
Since the H3 was designed to handle extreme off-road conditions, it had to be
equally capable in-road as well. And so our engineers added few extra features
just in case. The swing gate is mounted with a full-sized spare wheel and remote
keyless entry with a panic button provides the driver with a heightened sense of
security.
Driving the all-new H3 is the Vortec® 3700 engine. It generates 180 kW of power
at 5600 rpm and 328 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm with either the 5-speed manual or
the available 4-speed automatic transmission. And being both high-tech and
lightweight, the Vortec® 3700 further brings to the H3 high fuel efficiency.

General Motors
has found a buyer for Hummer, a brand that was once a must-have
accessory for the rich, but that came to symbolize the company's (not to mention
the nation’s) attachment to gas-guzzling mega machines.
And the buyer, the New York Times reports, is a machinery company in western
China, The Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd., based in
Chengdu. The Times cited an anonymous source after GM kept details of the deal
very much hush hush.
The Chinese company will buy a brand that started as the military’s Humvee and
morphed into a civilian dream machine. But GM is saying that the sale could save
more than 3,000 U.S. jobs in manufacturing, engineering and at Hummer
dealerships around the country. And it says the deal is expected to close by the
end of the third quarter.
GM claims in its release that the buyer will “aggressively fund future Hummer
product programs.”
